"Meow,"
The Cat said to the Dog, one paw to his whiskers as he licked some unseen thing from his claws. The Dog was, of course, confused. What could the Cat possibly want to say to him, much less in a way he wouldn't understand. He wasn't too fond of such large words. In short, the Dog decided it would at least be polite to respond.
"Woof."
It was inelegant and simple, but the Dog felt it would suit the purpose. However as the Cat took a defensive posture and puffed out his fur, clearly offended at his answer, the Dog was forced to question just what he might have said that could hurt the Cat's feelings so. 'Woof' wasn't hard to understand
